SPECIES INFO

The Crested Eagle (Morphnus guianensis) is a neotropical eagle. It is the only member of the genus Morphnus. It is 80 cm (32 in) and averages about 2.5 kg (5.5 lb).

It is sparsely distributed throughout its extensive range from Guatemala through Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Brazil, and east Andean Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay and Bolivia to north Argentina. It often overlaps in range with the likely closely-related Harpy Eagle and is somewhat similar to appearance, though it's half of that species' bulk and avoids competition by taking generally smaller prey.
