The ?Akikiki (Oreomystis bairdi) is a critically endangered bird that is found in some parts of Kauai. It was found in many parts of the lowland areas but has been pushed back due to transmission disease. It is a small grey topped white bellied bird that was only four inches long. It was found most commonly in the Alakai Reserve. It has also been affected by the two strong hurricanes that came through Kauai in 1980s-1990s. It has been put into a breeding camp where the first egg would hatch in 2000 which would be the starting point of a breeding program.

Hawaiian Air has named a Boeing 717-22A airliner "Akikiki."
