The Black-throated Canary or Southern Yellow-rumped Seedeater (Serinus atrogularis) is a species of finch in the Fringillidae family. It is found frequently in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, dry savanna, and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
Serinus atrogularis and S. reichenowi (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into S. atrogularis following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).
