The Grey-capped Woodpecker (Dendrocopos canicapillus) is a species of bird in the Picidae family. It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, North Korea, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Habitat at Jayanti in Buxa Tiger Reserve in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, India.

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical mangrove forests, and subtropical or tropical moist montanes.

Description

A small, dark woodpecker with dark irises. Barred black and white above with, usually, unbarred central tail feathers. Dark buff below with prominent dark streaking. Grey crown (red nape on male) and black eyestripes contrasting with broad white supercilia and cheeks. Slight maler stripe.
