SPECIES INFO

The Orange-breasted Green Pigeon (Treron bicincta) is a pigeon which is a widespread resident breeding bird in tropical southern Asia in the Himalaya and the hills of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

This is a species of forests and other woodlands. It builds a stick nest in a tree and lays two white eggs. Its flight is fast and direct, with the regular beats and an occasional sharp flick of the wings which are characteristic of pigeons in general.

Orange-breasted Green Pigeon is a stocky, medium-sized pigeon, typically 29cm in length. The face, back wings and belly are bright green, with a grey rear head and nape. The flight feathers are blackish and the tail is grey.

The male has a patch on the breast, bordered above by lilac, and yellower on its lower edge. The female has yellowish green underparts.

Orange-breasted Green Pigeons usually occur singly or in small groups. They eat seeds and fruits of a wide variety of plants.
