SPECIES INFO

The Thrush-like Schiffornis (Schiffornis turdina), also called Thrush-like Mourner or Thrush-like Manakin, is a species of Neotropical bird.

It is medium-sized, about 9 inches (24 centimeters) long. Depending on subspecies, it is overall brownish or olive. The belly is often grayish.

It is found in Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Taxonomy

The Thrush-like Schiffornis has traditionally been placed in the manakin family, but evidence strongly suggest it is better placed in Tityridae, where now placed by SACC. Additionally, as presently defined, it probably includes several species-level taxa.
